I don't think many games since 2000 have done that if ever beyond Quake. Even if you can't do the Quake3:// command, you can boot the game up, ~/console pull down and then enter "connect ip.here.to.connectto" and press enter to direct connect. The major thing that modern titles (and some of these titles) lost is the LAN and direct-connect-to-IP console command. Or do third parties like Gameranger/AllSeeingEye/etc.

So it isn't like it's impossible to connect to servers if servers band together to show server stats on a webpage like 1999-2000 PC servers did. There's apparently an extension/wrapper for your browser that'll do it for Battlefield 1942 as well. Similar to the old "steam://ip.or.whatever.here" command that was a security risk. Server-related crashing security bugs have been addressed. Issues addressed in this update: - Mac Universal Binary build is now in sync with PC version 1.08.

Just they had a better server browser function for Windows at the time.Īdditionally, you've been able to direct connect to Q3A with a "quake3://ip." command, IIRC. Halo 2.0.3 software update (Universal Binary Version) for Halo Combat Evolved Mac edition. Quake 1 didn't need a master server from Gamespy, IIRC. And, most of the people that played it, played it because you could crack it and play for free, and then eventually save up 8 dollars and buy a key.Same for Quake 1-2. It was Okay at the time (I say okay because it was a very bad port of an amazing game). I'm glad the game existed and created communities that still last to this day, but in all honesty, that game can die in a fire. Are they saying that microsoft will agree to adopt a game they didn't develop if it reaches that number? What is that 20,000 needed number even mean? It seems completely arbitrary. Otherwise I don't see 10k being done manually in one day.Įdit2: I will admit some are fake because I just saw a gabe newell from san fran posted like as of 2 minutes ago lmao but that does not mean a large percentage are. I doubt there's a program readily available for faking sigs on a site like but I guess that's possible. How easy is it to fake signatures? I mean those all are within a day and it seems like the comments are from all over the world (well mostly europe/americas/australia). I wonder how many of those signatures are fake.

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter While most of them are older, the result of Gamespy shut down will result in a death blow to many legacy PC gamers. Below is a list of some of the top games Gamespy lists for. While direct IP connections will still work, CD-key authentication and listing features will not. Gamespy provides server listing services for over 300 games including Halo. That said, direct IP connection to servers should work even after Gamespy services are no longer available. Other games (Take On Helicopters, Arma 2, Arma 2: Free, Arma, Arma: Cold War Assault) will have more limited multiplayer experience with loss of server browser, cd key authentification and NAT traversal systems. We are planning to introduce an alternative solution using Steam to Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead and Arma 3 users. This is going to affect multiplayer in our games that use Gamespy for matchmaking, cd keys authentification and NAT traversal from Arma: Resistance to Arma 3.

Important notice: effective May 31, 2014, Gamespy will cease providing all hosted services for all games.
